I would exist very much surprised if you manage to find whatsoever reader that tin can read a Retentiveness Stick but not a Memory Stick PRO. Memory Stick PRO was a affair earlier Expresscard and USB became commonplace.
Notwithstanding, you lot should be aware that Memory Stick Duo (whether PRO or not) is a different somewhat smaller size cistron. The Expresscard reader Sandisk SDAD-109, for example, volition only acknowledge Memory Stick Duo, Memory Stick PRO Duo, and Memory Stick PRO-HG Duo but none of the full-size variants. In contrast, the Expresscard reader Sony Vaio VGP-MCA20 will simply acknowledge the full-size variants (though of course you tin can use an MS-DUO to MS Adapter hither, something that does not work the other way round). The Vaio adapter does not read SDHC cards, however, making it non useful for much else other than retentivity sticks.
The aforementioned either/or problem volition occur with other locking adapters (PCcard or Laptop-internal). In contrast, external adapters that only admit the contact row rather than the whole card volition usually work for either.
Here is a deluge of some of those adapters and cards: note that the ednet adapter (USB 2.0) volition have no problems admitting either MS or MS Duo.
The lesser row gives the only media option making budgetary sense in my stance for your use case: MS Duo to MS adapter, micro SD to MS Duo adapter, 32GB SDHC micro SD carte. Y'all won't get above the transfer charge per unit of an MS PRO stick, and then MS PRO-HG Duo's potential would simply be wasted and they are manner more expensive. MS PRO (of whatever kind) will go without problems to 32GB in my experience, and that is the limit of the format. At that place is no way you will become an SDXC menu (which has larger size than 32GB) to work sensibly.
While 32GB volition work fine fifty-fifty in older cameras in my experience, the startup time after changing cards can be excessive.
By the style: once my cards are no longer in active utilise, I put them in the micro-SD to SDcard adapter they usually come with. When I need to reference them (note that flash cards eventually lose their information!), that's a cheaper solution than fiddling with memory stick adapters.

The Vaio adapter is only what you need if your laptop has an Expresscard slot. In that case, it is the most aesthetically pleasing solution in my stance. It is a rather old adapter which ways that you'll pretty probable only find it in used status on sale sites, and then likely only occasionally.
If you don't have an Expresscard slot (or, avaunt!, a PCcard slot), an external USB reader like the ednet reader I showed will exist the best bet and should non gear up y'all back much more than than $vi and stamp. The only advantage the Vaio adapter has is that it becomes office of your laptop if the laptop has an Expresscard slot, and thus you ever have it with you. That'southward all, and it is much less probable to be useful if yous upgrade your laptop than a manifestly USB adapter would be. For me, that was worth information technology (and my laptop does have a builtin SDHC reader of its ain, so the lack of SDHC support is no problem for me).
There will be no divergence in speed since electrically, either solution uses a USB connection that is faster than the maximum speed of an MS PRO.
I but mentioned that solution since if your laptop supports it, it's nice. Not necessary, only nice.

Re: Reader for Memory Stick PRO?
I want to thank all of your for your help with finding something to be able to read my Memory Stick PRO. I ended upward cancelling the Sandisk order from Amazon. I was fix to give upward when I searched eBay and found a used Sony MRW62E-T for $7.79, with taxation and postage it totaled $11.91. It arrived in perfect condition, nearly like it was new. This reader works to perfection and is just what I was looking for.

Frankly, about external card readers should work (they only are a bit less convenient than what you can turn into a laptop-internal reader). This one probably does non do SDHC but you probably accept something for that already in case you need information technology.
I find it actually curious that my Sony Vaio Expresscard reader will read a micro-SDHC card when within of a micro-SD to MSDUO and MSDUO to MSPRO adapter (cannot imagine them containing a meaning corporeality of circuitry), while it ignores it in a micro-SDHC to SDHC adapter.
At any rate, as a Sony adapter it should likely become reasonable data rates from MS sticks. Have fun!

Dak,
Thanks for your post. The simply affair I don't understand is your first sentence. You wrote, "Most external card readers should work." From my experience most carte du jour readers do not read Retentivity Stick PRO. That is why I had to buy this particular particular.

There are pure SDcard readers. Just "Multi" cardreaders (that tend to list a ridiculous number of supported formats, like 22 or so) tend to support MS variants besides. Other formats (that have become mostly unused) are MMC, xD-Picture card, CompactFlash, SmartMedia and likely a few others I forgot. Almost all of them have fallen by the wayside, then probably readers supporting them are easier to detect 2nd-paw than new, and at that place is probable no USB3 reader to be plant, though the transfer rates of the old cards don't actually necessitate i.
